Can you freeze potatoes?

This is a bit off topic but I think it pairs nicely with living green :)

I got a great deal on a 10lb bag of potatoes for $1.99.  So, what good is a 10lb bag of potatoes if they go bad before you use them?  Not a fan of throwing food away.
